Sew-In Wefts vs. Tape-Ins & Glue-Ins

If you've been researching extensions, you've probably noticed there are a lot of methods — and a lot of strong opinions. I specialize in sew-in weft extensions, and I want to explain why, without trashing every other option. The truth is, the "best" method is the one that's right for your hair. Here's how to think about it.

The quick breakdown

Tape-ins are wefts of hair attached with adhesive tabs that sandwich your own hair in between. They're fast to apply and lie flat, but the adhesive can slip with oil and heat, and removal involves a solvent.

Glue-ins / fusion bond hair using glue or keratin tips, often with heat. They can look seamless but the bonds and removal process are where damage tends to happen, especially on finer hair.

Sew-in wefts (what I do) use tiny beads and a sewn thread to secure wefts to your own hair — no glue, no tape, no heat, no adhesive residue.

Why I prefer sew-in wefts — especially for fine hair

When hair is fine or fragile, adhesives and heat are exactly what you want to avoid. A sew-in weft distributes the weight along a row rather than pulling on individual small sections, which tends to be gentler over time. There's no glue breaking down, no sticky residue, and no solvent needed at removal.

They're also practical. Wefts can be moved up as your hair grows and reused, so you're maintaining an investment rather than starting over each time. And because there's no adhesive, your natural hair gets to keep doing its thing underneath.

The honest part

Extensions aren't right for everyone, and I'll tell you honestly if they're not right for you. That's why every extension client at Aspire starts with a real assessment of hair health, density, and goals before I ever order hair. If your hair needs to recover first, I'll say so. For clients dealing with thinning or hair loss, I'm also developing a gentler mesh integration option.

The cost of the hair itself is always separate from the install — good extensions are an investment, and I'd rather be upfront about that than surprise you.
